What kind of diet snacks are good to have on hand when you are trying to lose weight?
Fruits and vegetables are the best diet snacks. Not only do they have lots of vitamins and minerals that are necessary for your body, but most come prepackaged in nature! There’s a lot of truth to the old adage that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
You can dress up your fruits and vegetables with low fat dips. For instance, ranch dressing complements almost all vegetables. For apples, try some caramel or peanut butter. And, yogurt is an excellent dip for many kinds of berries.
Try freezing grapes for a wonderful cold treat in the hot summer months.
Various dairy products also make good diet snacks. Low fat cheeses in their many forms are great noshes. For instance, skim milk string cheese, low fat cheddar cheese cubes, and cheese balls are all good to eat. Cottage cheese with or without fruit can be tasty. If you are craving sweets, dairy can suffice as well. Low fat fruit in the bottom yogurt is almost like desert. And, chocolate milk made with skim or 1 percent milk is yummy!
If you are craving crunchy, salty diet snacks, try flavored popcorn or rice cakes. Pretzels are very low in calories. If you want a dip for your pretzels, honey mustard makes a good accent. Baked tortilla chips are a pretty good option and homemade salsa has almost no calories.
If sweets are your thing, 2 whole wheat fig bars (look in the organic section) might do the trick. Or, try 2 low fat graham crackers spread with a tablespoon of chocolate frosting for your diet snack. 3 Hershey’s kisses have only 75 calories and provide just enough chocolate to satisfy your cravings. Be a child again and eat half a box of animal crackers with a glass of milk.
You can also concoct different beverages as diet snacks. For instance, In a blender, combine 1 cup fat-free milk, 1 small banana, and a squeeze of chocolate syrup to make a Banana Whip. An Orange Whip can be made in a blender by combining 1 cup orange juice, 1 carton orange nonfat yogurt, and a few ice cubes.
You can even have a Root Bear float as part of a balanced diet snacks. Just use diet Root Beer and low fat ice cream. A steaming mug of fat free cocoa can also be a great snack.
Diet snacks can also be mini-meals. For instance, consider having a cup of tomato soup with some raw baby carrots. That’s only 190 calories! You can even grab a frozen dinner for a snack. Amy’s Mexican Tamale Pie has only 150 calories and is full of high fiber beans and nutritious vegetables.
Increasingly, food manufacturers are noticing the need for diet snacks and a whole range of “100 calorie packs” have popped up. While these are not reduced calorie, they are portion controlled.
Even when you are on a diet, snacks can be found to satisfy every taste.
