Zoomba Weight Loss-Enjoyable Weight Loss Activity

If you are having trouble getting that last ten pounds gone or are just bored with the old work out routine, why not change things up and join a Zoomba weight loss class?

How much more weight would you lose if you found an enjoyable work out you could stick with? Well, for almost 15 years since it’s beginning, this fast-paced dance fitness work out, has become the most popular way to lose weight in homes and gyms around the world for its focus on fun, high-energy fitness.

Zoomba weight loss classes happened pretty much by accident when, in the mid-1990s, a fitness instructor in Colombia forgot the music he usually used for his classes and had to improvise by using tapes of traditional Latin American music in his class. The music was an immediate hit and a better work out was had by all so the instructor developed a work out class based on dances like the Merengue and Salsa.

When he came to the United States in 1999, he was obviously looking to expand his business and found two young entrepreneurs to help create a nationwide company. Through video sales, classes, and strict instructor training, his business expanded to more than 2,000 instructors nationwide by the fall of 2006.

A usual class lasts about an hour and consists of a combination of Latin American dances, Hip-Hop, belly dancing, and other dance styles. Each instructor choreographs his or her own class routine, but the fundamentals of the class are designed to provide a strong cardio and muscular workout. The whole body is incorporated in all of the moves, helping to burn fat and build lean muscle.

These workouts can vary in intensity, so do not worry about your current fitness level. The calories you will burn depend on your weight, fitness level and muscle composition. During an hour long session you can burn anywhere from 500 to 800 calories.

Based on your current fitness level you may have to modify the exercises you do to keep from injuring yourself and until you get to be in better shape to get the full benefit of the exercises.

For example, a 150-lb. person can expect to burn approximately 536 calories during a one hour class. By comparison, the same 150-lb person would burn approximately 415 calories during an hour of moderate swimming, and 685 for an hour of running at a 10-minute-mile pace.

These classes are designed to be high-energy and fun making it easier to stick with the program until you reach your goals. Anyone at almost any fitness level can start at any time without purchasing any equipment. Most gyms and fitness studios now offer classes, and DVDs are available for those who feel more comfortable exercising in their own homes.

Zoomba weight loss classes are offered in the United States, Europe, China, Japan and Mexico. The Educational Division trains and certifies all instructors, and produces and distributes DVDs for home use.
